Partnering criteria

The focus of Burma Assist is developing sustainable livelihoods.

The reasoning for this focus on 'developing sustainable livelihoods' came out of a series of informal meetings with all the Burmese refugee community leaders in 2006 in Delhi. The conclusion arrived at was that if ways of enhancing income generation amongst the refugees could be found, the other main needs, education, health, housing, could in part also be helped.

 Partnership criteria

  • project run by a community management team
  • project works to contribute as far as it can to its' own funding and sustainability
  • using appropriate bookeeping methods and willing to learn these
  • working transparently and accountably
  • participatory evaluation processes used
  • optimizing all available resources
  • helping the most disadvantaged
  • accounts externally audited

Burma Assist does NOT support

  • projects run by an individual
  • projects that simply want to rely on external funding to support their work (we believe this typically leads to an un-helpful dependency model)
  • health, general education and humanitarian aid projects
  • projects that have an underlying motive the religious conversion of others
  • political projects
  • individual requests for assistance

example1

This is simply some dummy text at the left hand side to give the page more height and prevent the text in the main centre column from disappearing under the bottom logo. The logo is absolutely positioned and the text will not wrap.

I tried a spacer gif but in IE it shows as an image which is no good because you want it to be invisible

Of course you can put some relevant text here and change the colour so that it actually appears on the page
