The Dorcas Story

In February 2009 four Burmese Chin women refugees in Delhi started the Dorcas Women's Tailoring Training Centre with the aim of helping other Chin women "to be able to stand on their feet."

The women chose the name of their Centre after Dorcas , the women in the New Testament renonwed for her charitable good works for the poor.

Out of 23 women the team have trained, 19 are now earning a living. This is a remarkable achievement for the conditions of Delhi.

The women are into their third training course with 13 women currently being trained. They have also started their own Production Centre and are making the superb 'Dorcas Shirt' (more information soon).

Being already involved with the Chin community, we were alongide them as they began and continue to support them financially and professionally.

£320 covers the training costs for one trainee1. The women then earn on average 3000 rupees and save an average 3000 rupees for their family and friends by stitching their clothes for free - 6000 rupees per month (£82)

With this they are able to survive and 'standing on their own feet'
